Do Your Company Cars Suffer From Range Anxiety?

This weekend our Systems Development Manager (and electric car contributor to this very blog), Craig Pullen is off on a mission.

Craig Pullen RunYourCars

Not content with being our Team Captain in our efforts to raise money for Movember, Craig is planning to make a fund-raising return journey from our office in Henley-in-Arden via Oxford and London in the RunYourCars Smart Fortwo electric Car.  This time the charity benefitting from Craig’s adventures will be BEN, the Automotive Industry Charity.

Craig is hoping to take advantage of the Ecotricity “Electric Highway” to keep him moving ever forward.  Ecotricity have placed Electric Vehicle charging bays in various service stations around the country, and Craig is using the journey to dispel the idea of “range issues” frequently associated with electric cars.

Craig will use the charging stations on the M40 at Oxford Services, the South Mimms Services on the M25 and the Newport Pagnell Services on the M1 to keep him driving on his 300 mile round trip.

Craig says,

“I’m aiming to disprove some of the range anxiety myths that come up whenever people mention electric cars. Hopefully my experiment will prove that the Electric Highway can be used for longer journeys. I’m delighted that we can also raise money for a great charity as well.”

Is there a place for electric company cars in the modern fleet?

RunYourCars are frequently asked about electric vehicles and their place as company cars in the world of fleet management and Craig is looking forward to expanding the knowledge and experience that we have in this area.

“There is definitely a place for electric vans and cars in a modern company vehicle fleet; of course usage has to be managed. RunYourCars knows that most fleet operations can use Electric Vehicles and standard cars side-by-side, delivering savings and efficiency whilst reducing the carbon footprint of the company.”

All of the team here at RunYourCars wish Craig the very best of luck on his journey. We’re handing over the twitter feed and the Facebook page to Craig over the weekend so he can keep us all updated. You can follow his trip on twitter at RunYourCars and you can like our Facebook page for regular snippets.

Happy Travels Craig!
