Audi A6 – Named "Best Executive Saloon" by Auto Express.
5th August 2011 Run Your Fleet Blog

When a magazine such as Auto Express names a car the “Best Executive Saloon” in their New Car Awards, you take notice – especially as the A6 has ended years of BMW dominance.  Is their opinion shared by other reviewers? It’ s important for Fleet Managers and those responsible for fleet management in their business to get a fair and balanced view of these things…

Top Gear wavers about the car, and isn’t too complimentary about Company Car drivers in its search for a humorous paragraph ending.  However their verdict is

Fab cabin, fine drive and low CO2 for company man. Progress everywhere but styling.

WhatCar? gave the Audi A6 four stars, saying

The A6 isn’t as rewarding to drive as a Jaguar XF and some of the controls are a little fiddly

Autocar answered the “Should I buy one?” question with this

If its position — fourth place — in our rivals table looks like a less than edifying result, it takes no account of how close those cars are now bunched, or how high the overall standard is. Truth is that the new A6 is a car of which Audi can be proud and, should you be in the market for a large saloon, one at which you should take a long, hard look.

All the reviewers mention a slight disappointment in both the handling of the car and the styling. The CO2 emissions were praised, which makes it a very attractive car if you manage your Company Car Fleet and for those in your organisation who are responsible for the green aspect of fleet management.

The final word should go to Auto Express,

The stunning cabin serves up plenty of luxury, kit and space. In this sector, nothing can match the attractive layout or material quality, and every model gets features such as sat-nav and Bluetooth connectivity as standard. Plus, Audi’s intuitive MMI control interface operates all of the major functions.

There are no bad engines in the line-up, but the diesels take the plaudits. Entry-level 2.0-litre TDI models deliver 175bhp and emit only 129g/km of CO2, while the 3.0 TDI is even more impressive. In four-wheel-drive quattro trim, the punchy oil-burner produces 242bhp, yet puts out a mere 156g/km –superb figures for a 4WD automatic saloon.

Do you agree with this choice? Is this your favourite car in the sector?
