2014 – A fleet management year in review
2014 has been a big year in fleet management. Back in October we bid a final, fond farewell to the tax disc after almost 100 years. Electric cars have moved much closer towards being a regular part of day to day fleet management and the major car manufacturers have unleashed another range of new models onto an expectant market. In this blog post we’re going to take a look back at the year in fleet management and look forward to the fleet management innovations and news that 2015 is already promising us.
A fond farewell to the tax disc?
2014 saw the end of the tax disc after 94 years of faithful service. Most people involved in fleet management probably breathed a sigh of relief when the tax disc was ripped in two for the final time since ordering, distributing and tracking them had previously been a fairly laborious task. Do spare a thought however for the legions (ok, maybe not legions) of tax disc collectors out there, whose albums of discs have been added to for the final time. Whether they’ll move on to stamps is, as of yet, unknown.
The coming of the electric car
The prospect of the electric car becoming a day to day part of most fleet manager’s life came much closer to fruition, the number of electric car charging points available around the UK has increased significantly this year. Meanwhile advances in battery charging technology mean that, within about five years, it could be possible to recharge an electric car in less time than it takes to fill up a car with petrol. It looks like 2015 could be a make or break year for electric car adoption. There are already a large number of hybrid electric cars in our range and we’ve already put the all-electric Nissan LEAF through its paces this year.
2014’s biggest launches
The big car manufacturers certainly had us spoiled for choice when it came to new model launches this year. Ford unleashed the newest Ford Mondeo upon the world with high hopes that it could regain its former title of Britain’s most popular car. Coupe fans were catered for by Audi, which launched the new Audi TT to much acclaim earlier this year. Fans of French cars were catered for by the launch of the new Renault Twingo.
As you can see 2014 was a pretty big year in fleet management and we’re sure that there are only better things to come in 2015. Rest assured, that if you keep an eye on the Run Your Fleet blog you won’t miss any of the big developments in fleet management.
